Realme GT 2, analysis: a blind choice for those looking for maximum power at a contained price
One of the best mobiles we were able to test during 2021 has been renewed this year to continue its sales and critical success: the Realme GT 2 can now be purchased in stores. And we have spent a few weeks alone with it: it is the perfect phone for those who want a high-end phone at a more than decent price.
Little by little, Realme has gone from being an unknown brand to being present among the general public as one of those mobile manufacturers capable of giving a lot without asking for excess money in return. The mid-range is the territory that the brand controls best; without ceasing to know how to make models of the highest range. The Realme GT 2 is the perfect example.
Different designs as great packaging to excellent hardware
The appearance of the new Realme GT 2 family breaks with the usual to include a rough-looking rear face that, according to the brand, is inspired by paper. This finish greatly facilitates grip, keeps fingerprints away, and provides distinction. Right at that point is the signature of the designer, Naoto Fukasawa. You may like it or not, it depends on each one, but it does make the Realme GT 2 different.
The rear appearance makes it stand out, and the rest of the design remains in line with what is usual in the GT family. Well, used front with noticeable frames, a lower “chin” that does not square in symmetry with the upper rack, a hole in the upper corner for the front camera, and the body is made of plastic (the combination is pleasant in hand), and the buttons are the height of a comfortable pulsation. It is larger than the original Realme GT, and the dimensions are not as contained (a drawback for those looking for a “non-giant” size mobile).
The screen is of excellent quality, both for the maximum brightness (visibility without problems outdoors) and for the saturation and color temperature (customizable in the settings). No loss of sharpness is noticeable to the naked eye, the 120 Hz refresh rate suits it very well (the interface flows perfectly), and the viewing angles remain in line with the quality of the OLED screen. Auto brightness does not behave erratically.
The audio quality is excellent when using Bluetooth headphones: the sound is quality. It offers a very high range of nuances, and the bass boost has a noticeable punch. In addition, it provides excellent compatibility with Bluetooth codecs: SBC and AAC. LDAC, LHDC, and the entire cast of aptX. As for the cable, the Realme GT 2 does not include a 3.5mm jack, but it does offer analog sound output through USB C (an external DAC is not necessary). And the dual stereo speakers deliver high-quality audio and a volume that’s not over the top but loud enough (and not overly distorted).
Very high power and performance with a certain aftertaste of 2021
The GT family is characterized by offering the maximum benefits to its users, both in video games and in day-to-day use. And although his brother, the Realme GT 2 Pro, bets on this year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, our protagonist “settles” for the Snapdragon 888. And we put the quotes because the high-level experience is beyond any doubt.
The Realme GT 2 is a bullet. The interface moves fast, we haven’t noticed any jumps in the exchange of apps, the games can be configured at the highest graphic quality without any appreciable drop in fps, Android flows amazingly, and we haven’t noticed an alarming rise in temperature, not even for long periods. Game sessions. Yes, it gets hot, especially during charging, but nothing out of the ordinary.
Good photographic experience, although with room for improvement
The Realme GT 2 is high-end with all of the laws, and we have already verified it until we reach the analysis of the cameras. At this point, we can say that the phone’s capabilities are slightly weak compared to the average, a drop that focuses on the aspects related to processing. On the other hand, the camera app that comes standard with Realme UI 3 is successful.
Our protagonist boasts a more than a solvent 50-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, multidirectional autofocus, and mechanical stabilization (OIS). This more than the capable camera is accompanied by an 8-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens (119º wide and f/2.2 aperture) and a 2-megapixel macro lens camera with f/2.4 aperture. This combination already denotes that Realme has compensated the price of the Realme GT 2 in the photographic components.
Although the macro camera can be considered filler, and the wide-angle does not reasonably obtain the necessary quality and detail, the primary camera performs well enough in most situations. How do I stumble occur? No more is needed to get good pictures in most scenes. Even at night: the Realme GT 2 performs well when the light goes down.
Exteriors with good lighting are not a problem for the primary camera, nor are interiors: Realme manages to capture enough light both in automatic mode and in night mode. Both do something similar automatically: stabilization kicks in to combine different long-exposure photos in low light. The Realme GT 2 is a good night phone despite some logical lack of detail.
The wide-angle leaves something desired in most shots due to its lack of detail, appreciable with some zoom. In addition, the processing fails to maintain colorimetry and white balance between the two primary sensors, a defect that reduces the capacity of the secondary camera.
